Did you know a phone screen has 10 times more bacteria than a toilet, and possibly this figure would increase if the person referred to works in the healthcare sector?
The current pandemic situation has finally made us think about how to disinfect our devices safely, which is much more difficult than it seems.
What options do we have to disinfect the screens?
First of all, manufactures advise against using chemical agents, like spraying disinfectant liquid on the screen or keeping them immersed in antiseptics. The only way that could be acceptable is to use 70% isopropyl alcohol wipes or clean the surface with a soft and moistened cloth.
However, these measures are not 100% recommendable as moisture might penetrate into your device through the slots or the charging port.
This is why UVC is the most reliable and safe solution when it comes to disinfecting your phone. However, we don’t encourage to use sanitizing boxes fitted with UVC LEDs, as recent research has shown that their disinfecting capacity is very limited. It works much better if the sanitizing box carries quartz UVC tubes.
We would suggest using UVC table lamp or an UVC mini model because when we sterilize our accessories, we will also be able to disinfect our room.
So far there is no evidence showing UVC light do harm to mobile phone screens, although we should be well aware that OLEDs are more sensitive than LCDs.
Although some plastics might be affected, evidence shows that this only happens when there is a continuous exposure for several hours. In this case, proper wavelength type and exposure time would be crucial to avoid the damage to our devices. Thus, acquiring a high-quality lamp will be essential.
