Given the fact there is a large increase in request for information related to the safety and effectiveness of germicidal UV-C equipment and its merchandising strategies, the Ministry of Security has issued a legal regulation about this product, taken effect on the date of 20th of November, 2020.
In it, a series of observations were made, which we summarize in this Newsletter, with the aim of keeping our Germiled users informed and soothing their anxieties in using these products. As all of our followers know, the type UV-C light is quite effective to inactive virus, fungi and bacteria.
Carried out within the framework of Spanish Agency’s Work Plan for the Evaluation of Health Technologies and Benefits of the SNS, this report has reviewed the evidence of UVC light’s effectiveness and safety and suggested:
–UV-C light devices could inactivate SARS-COV-2 in an easy and fast way. However, they have found no evidence of its disinfection link with ozone.
-According to the International Commission on Illumination, on the condition of environmental intervention, UV-C radiation could effectively prevent the spread of the infectious agents (Bacteria and virus) both in air transmission and in close contact like touching objects and surfaces.
-On the other hand, there is more and more evidence showing that UV-C light could be worked as a complementary tool for standard manual cleaning in spaces like hospitals. That may turn out efficient in the practice.
-In order to establish some minimum safety requirements in these devices and equipment, the UNE, together with Anfalum, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and the Ministry of Security have developed a specific rule UNE 0068, as we talked about in our last Newsletter.
Taking all the above into consideration, we will offer this advice:
-Use UV-C light competently to avoid health and safety problems that could possibly emerge. One way to keep away from it is to choose devices that can comply with the rule UE0068 and carry a timer and a motion detector for precaution, so as to prevent UV-C light doing harm to the places where people could be directly exposed to.
-Never apply the UV-C light in the sterilization of your hands or body.
-No acquire any UV- devices that don’t contain the Industrial Registration Number (RII-AEE) of suppliers or distributors. Otherwise, we cannot ensure their harmless to the environment and human safety.
If we are able to comply with these observations, the use of UV-C could be helpful for us to inactivate the microorganisms that exist in our environment and surfaces of objects. As such, we achieve an improvement in our achieving an improvement in our wellbeing.
