New regulation on safety requirements for UV-C devices.

The growing offer of UV-C devices in the market, in many cases misleading, has made the Spanish Ministry of Health, together with the association Anfalum, publish the UNE 0068 standard.

This regulation includes the safety requirements for UV-C appliances used for air and surfaces disinfection. Not surpringsinly, since we are talking about a highly effective device that can be at the same time dangerous if a correct use of it is not done.

As we have discussed on other occasions, although there are no conclusive studies on this subject, UV-C light can cause adverse damage to skin and eye tissues. For this reason, its use is recommended avoiding the presence of people, animals or plants.

This recommendation clashes with the sale of some devices that are marketed for manual application, or in the presence of people. With reference to this, the UNE 0068 is clear: in order to avoid accidental exposure, UV-C appliances need to be equipped with devices such as timers and motion detectors.

Any device that does not comply with these safety measures may not be effective in eliminating viruses and bacteria, or contrary, may be dangerous to our health.

GERMILED UV-C lamps not only follow the UNE 0068 standard, but also have a remote control to switch the device on from outside of the room, to provide added safety.
