Recent studies have shown that UV-C technology is truly effective in eliminating viruses, bacteria and fungi. This is because when bacteria and viruses are exposed to the rays of germicidal UV, they absorb them and a photolytic reaction that produces the dimerization of segments of nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) takes place, which makes them unable to replicate and infect.

Although there are no conclusive studies demonstrating that UV-C light is dangerous for humans, it is true that it can cause temporary irritation to eye and skin tissues.

Does this mean it is dangerous? No. It simply means that like any other cleaning product, tool or appliance, we must take certain precautionary measures before using it.

Does this mean that all germicidal lamps are safe?

Unfortunately, not. As in the aforementioned, exposure to UV-C radiation can cause irritation to skin and eye tissue. That is why the lamps must be equipped with a system that allows them to be switched on remotely, and a movement sensor that turns the UV-C lamp off if there is an accidental entry into the room.

Bear in mind that one should not be in presence during the disinfection process. It shall be well noted that a lack of proper safety measure in use may entail a significant danger to our health.

In addition, due to the potential risk caused by an unproper use of UV-C lamp, we must make sure that our devices meet all the legislative standards and are certificated by the scientific labs to guarantee their effectiveness.
